"Suspicious Package" At RenCen Turns Out To Be False Alarm
DETROIT (WWJ) - An all-clear has been given at the Renaissance Center after police and firefighters responded to a possible "suspicious package" situation, which police tell WWJ proved to be a false alarm.
Traffic along Jefferson Avenue in both directions has been a virtual parking lot since before 5 p.m., especially heading into downtown with traffic backed-up all the way to the Lodge.
Traffic, of course, was already jammed because of the Downtown Hoedown, but the police and fire presence created an extremely busy and hectic scene.
It was the second "suspicious package" situation of the day. Earlier, police responded to a report of a suspicious package at the McNamara Building on Michigan Avenue. Part of the building was evacuated, but workers returned to the building.
