Suspicion Surrounds Grosse Pointe Store Fire
GROSSE POINTE (WWJ) - An early morning fire heavily damaged a coin and stamp store in Grosse Pointe, along Mack Avenue just east of Cadieux in a building shared by several other businesses.
Grosse Pointe Fire Chief Steven Poloni said the sounding of two different alarms raised an immediate red flag.
"We responded to an intrusion alarm followed shortly there after by an alarm for smoke," said Poloni.
Amidst the damage, Chief Poloni said an initial inspection did not appear to show anything of value missing from the shop.
According to the store's website, Coins & Stamps buys and sells U.S. and world paper money, stamps, watches, estate jewelry and military items. The store, who also offers bank appraisals, has been the scene of two recent burglaries since January.
Arson investigators are looking into the fire's cause.
