Suspects Fire AK-47 At State Trooper In Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say someone leaned out of a car and fired an AK-47 at a state trooper who was trying to make a routine traffic stop on Detroit's northwest side.
WWJ's Mike Campbell reports the shooting happened around 8 p.m. Thursday near McNichols Road and Grand River Avenue.
Police say the incident started when a trooper attempted to stop a Chrysler 300 for a traffic violation in the area of Fenkell and Burgess. Police say the trooper was forced to pursue the vehicle after the driver refused to stop.
According to Michigan State Police, one of the four suspects began to fire multiple rounds from an assault rifle at the state police car during the four block pursuit in a residential area.
The barrage missed the trooper but hit the patrol car windshield, affording the assailants a chance to speed off.
Detroit police, however, caught up with the car in the area of Grand River and Stout and arrested two suspects -- a 23-year-old woman and a 22-year-old-male, both of Detroit -- after a short foot chase.
Police say they also recovered multiple AK-47s from the suspects' car.
State police say the final two suspects were taken into custody on Friday. The two suspects are 22 and 21-year-old males from Oak Park.
No one was injured in the shooting. An investigation is ongoing.
