Suspects Escape Police Chase On I-94 After Stealing SUV, Robbing 7-Eleven [VIDEO]

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Authorities are searching for as many as three suspects who stole an SUV in Detroit, robbed a convenience store in Roseville -- during which shots were fired -- and evaded capture from a police chase on I-94.

Police say the incident unfolded around 3:30 a.m. Wednesday when officers were dispatched to the 7-Eleven store on Masonic Boulevard at Little Mack Avenue on a report of an armed robbery.

A store employee told police that a man entered the store, walked around the counter and pointed the gun at himself and a customer. The suspect fired off a round, which struck a struck a cigarette display, and demanded money from the register. No one was injured in the shooting.

Police say it's unknown if the suspect intended to strike the employee with gunfire or just scare the occupants but either way, the employee complied and opened the cash register. The suspect grabbed as much cash as he could, exited the store and got into the front passenger seat of a light gold-colored GMC SUV.

Officers quickly spread out across the neighborhood and eventually located the suspect vehicle, which was reported stolen in Detroit a short time prior to the robbery in Roseville, traveling west on I-94 near 11 Mile Road. An attempt was made to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped off. Officers chased after the vehicle until a decision was made to terminate the pursuit in the area of I-94 and Conner.

Police are now searching for as many as three suspects, but only have a description of the man involved in the robbery. He is described as a black male in his late teens or early 20s, approximately 6-feet tall with a medium build. He was wearing a dark North Face jacket, gray pants, white tennis shoes and a dark knit cap.

The suspect vehicle is described as a tan or light gold colored 2000 model year GMC SUV, possibly a Jimmy. At the time, the vehicle had a Michigan license plate number "DAK5991" although police say the plate is improper and does not belong on that vehicle.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact police at 586-447-4508 or 586 775-2100.
