Suspected Teen Robber Taken Into Custody After Brief Police Bicycle Chase
ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A 17-year-old Roseville boy is facing charges after police say he robbed a local party store.
The situation unfolded around 2 a.m. Tuesday when officers on patrol observed "fresh damage" to the front door of the Party Hut on Gratiot Avenue at Delaware Street, just north of 12 Mile Road.
Officers searched the building and found that the cash register had been gone though, but the suspect was nowhere in sight. The officers also found what appeared to be blood near the cash register, leading them to believe that whoever broke in must have cut their hand on glass while breaking the front door.
The officers started canvassing the neighborhood in an attempt to find the suspect when about 20 minutes into their search, they located a teen riding a bike near Common Road and Park Street who appeared to have a cut on his hand.
When the officers ordered the teen to stop, he rode off. After a short pursuit, the suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of other officers. Police say the teen did have minor injuries, due to being cut by glass.
The teen is currently being held at the Roseville Police Department. He could be arraigned in the next few days.
An investigation is ongoing.
