Suspect Ordered To Trial In Death Of 86-year-old Detroit Lottery Winner
DETROIT (AP) - A judge has ordered a trial for a young man accused of killing an 86-year-old Detroit man whose disappearance led to speculation that he was targeted after winning the lottery.
The Detroit News says there was no mention of lottery winnings during a court hearing Friday. But a witness testified that $3,000 stashed under a bed was a motive in the fatal stabbing of Arthur Neal.
Neal's body was found in a vacant house on Feb. 1, six weeks after he disappeared. Twenty-year-old Quanzell Hood was ordered to trial on a first-degree murder charge after a witness implicated him.
Dajuan Anderson says he urged Hood to just steal the money and not kill Neal. Anderson says he didn't call police because he feared retaliation.
