Supreme Court Will Not Review Eminem Case
DETROIT (WWJ) - The Supreme Court has quietly handed a major victory to Eminem in a much-watched case involving online royalties.
The Supreme Court won't get involved in a fight between Detroit rapper Eminem's former production company and Universal Music Group over downloads of the rapper's songs and ringtones.
The high court has refused to hear an appeal from Universal Music Group.
It's a win for the Detroit Rapper and his former production company, the court declined to hear an appeal filed by Universal Music Group in a dispute over payments for downloaded tracks and ringtones.
Universal paid the rapper's former label 12 percent of sales.
The Appeals Court ruled that a contract entitled Eminem and his former label a 50-50 split.
Essentially the court let stand an appellate court ruling against the record company, the world's biggest, and set the stage for a potentially massive payout to the rapper and Ferndale's F.B.T. Productions.
