Sunset Over Lake Superior Wins Pure Michigan Online Photo Contest
LANSING (WWJ) -- Pure Michigan announced that Carla White of Christmas is the winner of the Michigan Moments Photo Contest.
White's winning photograph features a sunset over Lake Superior, just west of Bay Furnace Park in Christmas.
"Once again our fans delivered some incredible photographs highlighting the landmarks as well as some hidden gems found across the state," said George Zimmermann, vice president of Travel Michigan, part of the Michigan Economic Development Corp. "Our winning photo from Carla White showcases Michigan's natural beauty and provides a terrific representation of Pure Michigan for our spring/summer guide."
The winning photo will be published in the 2014 spring-summer Pure Michigan Travel Guide. One million copies of the guide will be printed, with 650,000 copies being distributed with the March-April issue of Midwest Living Magazine.
More than 3,000 photos ranging from picturesque landscapes to urban adventures and featuring all four seasons and destinations across the state were submitted to Pure Michigan through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. In total, 56,211 votes were cast during the contest.
"The location of the photo is an amazing place that locals call 'paradise' located in Christmas in the Upper Peninsula," White said. "My husband and I love taking our friends and family out here to catch sunsets when they come up to visit us. It's one of the best places to catch a sunset in the Upper Peninsula and I'm glad I had some of my family with me when I captured this Pure Michigan moment."

While the 2014 spring-summer travel guide featuring the winning photo will not be out for several more months, the 2013 Pure Michigan Winter Travel Guide is now available on michigan.org. The guide is also available at the 14 Michigan Welcome Centers across the state as well as in a free, universally accessible digital edition, which will allow users to access the guide from their desktop and laptop computers, smartphones and tablets.
