Sugar Lawsuit Addresses Rebranding Of High-Fructose Corn Syrup
DETROIT (WWJ) - A group of sugar farmers and refiners, including one based in Michigan, is suing corn processors for their attempt to rebrand high- fructose corn syrup as "corn sugar.''
Michigan Sugar Company is joining Western Sugar Cooperative and C&H Sugar Company in asking a federal court in Los Angeles to end the campaign and order "corrective advertising."
The Corn Refiners Association is seeking government permission to have future food labels refer to high-fructose corn syrup as corn sugar.
The sugar industry contends it's false advertising.
