Suburban Communities Get Representation In Detroit Water Board
DETROIT (WWJ) - The "new look" Detroit Water Board will meet for the first time since it's been revamped.
WWJ's Rob Sanford reports for the first time the board will have representatives from suburban customer communities
The new Water Board comes about following a court order and now has seven members.
The City of Detroit still has the advantage of having four representatives, with major expenditures and rate increases needing five votes for approval.
The new faces are from Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties, and were chosen by their respective governments.
The Detroit Free Press reports the agenda for Wednesday's afternoon meeting includes proposals to spend $20 million on water system improvements.
There are 4.3 million water customers in metro Detroit.
