Subdued Torii Hunter On ALCS Loss: 'Same Song, Same Old Song'
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) While Prince Fielder seemed to shrug off the Tigers' ALCS defeat at the bats of the Boston Red Sox, teammate Torii Hunter took a much different approach, seemingly visibly shaken.
"We made mistakes, I mean, we can't do anything about it," a subdued Hunter said in the locker room to 97.1 The Ticket, shaking his head. "It's tough."
Will he look back and think the team had a great season?
"We can always say 'if, if if, and we can always look back and think about certain situations, certain pitches, certain situations you didn't come through in, you can always look back and second guess, and we probably should have won at least one of these games ... but why, it's over with, you can't take it back, it's over, it's tough, tough for me, the door's closing."
Hunter ended his interview shaking his head sadly and saying, "Same song, same old song."
Hunter, 38, is one year into a $26 million two-year deal with the Tigers. He was signed last fall after the Angels failed to come through with a $13.3-million qualifying offer to Hunter after his five-year, $90-million contract expired in October 2012.
When he came on board, he said his goal was to win a World Series with the Tigers.
