Stun Gun Used In Arrest Of Man Who Died In Jail
MOUNT PLEASANT (AP) - Police say a 36-year-old New Jersey man who was found dead in a mid-Michigan jail cell over the weekend had been subdued by officers using a stun gun during his arrest.
Michigan State Police told the Morning Sun that police used a stun gun on Bradford Gibson, of East Orange N.J., on Saturday at the Wayside Central bar. Police told the paper officers were trying to get him to leave the bar after employees asked him to leave.
After Gibson began struggling with the arresting officers, police say that's when the Taser was used and he was placed under arrest for being a disorderly person, resisting a police officer and aggravated assault on an officer.
Police say Gibson was being uncooperative back at the Isabella County Jail, and was placed in a holding cell instead of being booked.
About an hour later, police say Gibson was found unconscious, not breathing and without a pulse around 3 a.m.
State police are investigating. An autopsy was conducted and investigators were awaiting a report about cause of death.
