Study Shows Elementary School Has 'Mean Girls'

Researchers have found that girls, particularly in elementary school, are engaging in levels of relational aggression once found more common in middle and high schools.

Students as young as elementary school have been found to be putting other girls down, excluding them from recess, and not inviting them to social events. Part of the problem is the speed that girls grow up, and even elementary school girls imitate the poor behavior that they see in the media from the older girls they emulate.

Some schools, including Department of Defense schools, have responded by implementing anti-bullying programs as early as kindergarten, aimed specifically at girls.
