Students Seeking Diversity To Meet With Officials At U-M
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) - University of Michigan students seeking to promote racial diversity at the school are expected to meet with university officials on Friday.
Leaders of the Black Student Union on Monday released a list of demands aimed at increasing black enrollment and inclusion on the Ann Arbor campus, including lower housing costs for low-income students. They want black enrollment to be 10 percent.
The Ann Arbor News reports the Black Student Union executive board will meet in the afternoon with Provost Martha Pollack and others.
The Detroit Free Press reports an online petition is urging action.
University of Michigan officials have said they planned steps to boost racial diversity on campus and increase black enrollment.
Black students made up 4.6 percent of the school's freshman class in 2012, down from recent years.
