Students Protest Proposed University Cuts
LANSING (WWJ) - Over 200 college students rallied on State Capitol steps, Thursday, to show their dismay over planned cuts to Michigan universities. They're the latest group to protest Governor Rick Snyder's budget proposals.
Governor Snyder has proposed cuts of more than 20 percent to universities, but has offered to keep the cut at 15 percent if tuition increases no more than 7 percent.
"None of those numbers add up for these college kids," said WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick.
"Many of them said look it -- we are already being stretched thin in paying for our higher education. One girl told me, if this happens, I'll have to drop out of school," Skubick said.
Skubick said the protests won't likely have any impact on the Governor's decision.
