Student Allegedly Brings Loaded Gun To School
DEARBORN HEIGHTS (WWJ) - A Dearborn Heights teen is in police custody after allegedly bringing a gun to school.
District officials said in a statement that the Crestwood High School student "did not threaten or harm" any students or teachers with the pistol. The school was locked down for a short time Monday morning as police searched the building and nearby streets.
Dearborn Heights Police Captain Jeff Seipenko said the student left for an off-site class after the incident but was found shortly after at a city library where he was arrested.
Seipenko said police worked quickly after the second student told school officials about the gun.
"It's important that other students take these threats seriously and inform a staff member," Seipenko told WWJ Newsradio 950. "By the actions of this one student ... we were able to, you know, secure the high school quickly and make sure everybody on campus there was safe and accounted for, and then obviously locate this individual with the weapon."
The teen's name has not been released.
There was no immediate word as to what charges would be filed.
