Severe Thunderstorms Hit SE Michigan
Powerful thunderstorms moved through Metro Detroit Thursday afternoon knocking down power lines, trees and tree branches and flooding roads.
DTE Energy reported about 95-thousand homes and businesses without power as of 8 p.m.
The DTE Outage map shows major outages reported near Allen Park, Taylor, Plymouth-Canton, Livonia, Pittsfield Township, Auburn Hills, Berkley, Farmington Hills, Novi, and near Imlay City.

Spotters with the National Weather Service report a 60 miles per hour wind gusts near Milford and Holly. Small trees and branches also were blown down.
Several lightning strikes hit homes and started fires in Berkley and Farmington Hills. The Oakland County Sheriff's Department took numerous calls about power lines and trees down, however no injuries had been reported.

A spotter also reported hail, about an inch in diameter, near Van Dyke and Eight Mile in Detroit and in St. Clair Shores.
National Weather Service spotters reported top wind gusts of 71 miles per hour near Davison and 62 miles per hour near Linden in Genesee County.
In Flushing, west of Flint, a National Weather Service employee reports a 60 miles an hour wind gust. Several large trees are down and power is reported out.
A ham radio operator is reporting 18-inch in diameter trees down near Flushing as well.
Nearly three inches of rain was reported in a 45-minute span in the thumb region.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch had been posted for much of the afternoon, however it was cancelled just before 8 p.m.

After a hot and humid day today, the risk for strong thunderstorms will shift into the eastern Great Lakes and parts of New England Friday.
Minnesota and Wisconsin were slammed by severe thunderstorms Wednesday.
