Storms Leave Thousands Without Power
High winds and heavy rain hit parts of Metro Detroit Sunday afternoon.
Police in Troy and National Weather Service spotters reported a number of trees down near Rochester Road and Waddles. One inch in diameter hail was reported near Coolidge and Long Lake roads.
Parts of Macomb County also experienced severe weather. A trained spotter reported large tree branches down near Sterling Heights High School near 15 Mile and Dodge Park roads. Flooding was reported along I-94 in Roseville.
A wind gust of 60 miles per hour wind gust was reported near I-94 and Gratiot. Gusts of 55 and 50 mph were reported in Brighton and Detroit. A 40 mph gust was reported in Birmingham.
A DTE Energy power outage map showed scattered outages throughout Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. Crews are working this morning to restore power to some 6,800 customers still in the dark this morning.
