Steelers LB Woodley Launches Foundation In Saginaw
SAGINAW, Mich. (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker and former Michigan Wolverines great LaMarr Woodley has started a nonprofit organization.
The LaMarr Woodley Foundation officially launched Monday morning. It aims to help underprivileged and underserved children and adults in Pittsburgh and his hometown of Saginaw.
Woodley says he's been doing work in the community since he was at Michigan and realized a foundation would help him establish long-term programs to help improve lives in both cities.
He donated $60,000 last month to the Saginaw Public Schools' athletic department to offer young people a chance to play sports for free. The school system instituted pay-to-play fees because of athletic department budget cuts, charging high school students $75 a year to participate.
