Statham As PARKER: Bad Is Oh So Good
HOLLYWOOD (WWJ) - Jason Statham makes bad look oh so good.
Statham, perhaps best known for his role as Frank Martin in "The Transporter" films, stars as the title character in "Parker" alongside Jennifer Lopez. In "Parker," Statham's character is a professional thief who lives by a particular code of ethics: Don't steal from people who can't afford it and don't hurt people who don't deserve it." So, after being double-crossed by his crew on a heist at the Ohio State Fair, Parker tracks them all the way to Palm Beach, Florida where his plan is to get what he's owed.
If you're a big Jason Statham fan like I am, you probably have high expectations of him – just like I do. He's so adept at playing "likeable" bad guys that it's impossible NOT to root for him. So, while eyeballing – I mean watching – him in action, yes you want him to win, and no you don't want him to get caught. That, even though he leaves plenty of destruction in his wake, but after all, he has good reason to do what he's doing – doesn't he?
As for J-Lo, she stars as realtor Leslie Rodgers, who teams up with Parker for more reasons than one. What are her reasons? One you can probably guess, but as for the others, well you'll just have to watch the movie to find out.
In addition to Statham and Lopez, Parker stars Michael Chiklis, Wendell Pierce (HBO's "The Wire") and Academy Award nominee Nick Nolte. Singer/actress Patti LuPone appears as Leslie's mother, Ascension.
Parker gets my vote if for no other reason than it's another chance to watch Statham in action, and that's something I'll never get tired of doing.
