State Shuts Down In-Home Day Care Amid Death Investigation
KENTWOOD, Mich. (AP) - The state has shut down an in-home day care center in western Michigan following the death of an infant who'd recently been cared for there.
Police say they got a call Feb. 19 about a medical emergency at the Grand Rapids home of 3 and a half-month-old Cooper Fales, and the baby was pronounced dead.
WOOD-TV says Cooper already was in a car safety seat with a blanket over the top for warmth when his father picked him up at the day care center in nearby Kentwood.
Police in both cities are collaborating because it's unclear where the baby died.
Michigan Department of Human Services spokesman Bob Wheaton tells The Grand Rapids Press that the state revoked the center's license after inspectors found 11 rule violations.
