State Police: 2 Arrested For Detroit To Traverse Heroin Trafficking
DETROIT (WWJ) - A years-long investigation has concluded with the arrests of two people accused of trafficking heroin from Detroit to Northern Michigan.
Michigan State Police First Lt. Mike Shaw said, Thursday morning, the Traverse Narcotics Team, working in conjunction with Western Wayne Narcotics executed a search warrant at a home on Cadillac St. in Detroit.
"When officers executed the search warrant they were able to recover an amount of heroin and also some firearms," Shaw told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber.
Show would not say, at this time, how much heroin was found.
He said the investigation began almost three years ago in Grand Traverse County, where the drug is much more expensive.
"One of the reasons that we see a lot of narcotics flowing from Detroit up to Northern Michigan is basically because of the price," he said. "You can purchase heroin down in the Detroit area for about 80 bucks a gram. When you get up into Grand Traverse, up in northern Michigan, the same amount of narcotics goes for $240...so we're starting to see a lot of trafficking come from this area on up."
Shaw said the two people taken into custody will be transferred to the Grand Traverse Jail while they will be booked and lodged while they await arraignment.
Their names will be released at that time.
