State Making Healthy Profit From Medical Marijuana
DETROIT (WWJ) - It appears that patients aren't the only ones benefiting from medical marijuana. As WWJ's Chrystal Knight explains, it may be a cure for the state budget as well.
A recent state reports shows that medical marijuana licensing has brought in a hefty $8 million dollar profit for the state, coming from the drugs licensing fees.
WWJ spoke with Tim Beck, he's with the Michigan Association Compassion Centers and is also a medical marijuana patient, he says he doesn't mind helping out the state budget but, "They are four months behind in issuing ID's cards, they've got all the money in the world that they need to properly staff that organization, and obviously they are not there to serve the needs of the patients and caregivers - apparently it's just another profit center for the state government," said Beck.
More than 100,000 residents of the state of Michigan are registered medical marijuana users at a cost of $100 dollars per year.
