State Giving $300,000 For Macomb County Trail Work
SHELBY TWP. (WWJ/AP) - The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund has awarded $300,000 for construction on a three-mile stretch of a biking and hiking trail in suburban Detroit.
Officials in Macomb County's Shelby Township got word earlier this month that the trust fund will help pay for the project. The money comes from selling oil and gas drilling rights.
The trail segment will link River Bends Park to the Macomb Orchard Trail.
Township parks and recreation director Joe Youngblood said the grant may not cover the entire three-mile stretch, but the community will get as much of the work done as possible.
Shelby Township's grant was one of 142 applications considered by the DNR. A construction timetable has yet to be established.
