State, Detroit Prepare For Christmas Trees
DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Halloween just wrapped up hours ago and Michigan is already getting prepared for the Holiday season.
Michigan's official Christmas tree is expected to be delivered to the Capitol lawn this weekend.
The state says the 61-foot blue spruce was donated by Jerry and Beverly Kilburn of Houghton Lake. It was selected after nominations were taken from across Michigan. A tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for Nov. 18 as part of the Silver Bells in the City celebration.
Meantime, the city of Detroit is getting ready to erect a 60-foot Norway Spruce tree, which is scheduled to arrive Wednesday.
The tree, which is a gift from the Kettunen Center, a Michigan 4-H Foundation near Cadillac, will be hoisted atop the Woodward Fountain in Campus Martius Park. A tree-lighting ceremony is also scheduled for Nov. 18 as part of the Winter Magic-Detroit festivities, presented by DTE Energy Foundation.
