Standoff In Sterling Heights Ends Peacefully
STERLING HEIGHTS (WWJ) - Sterling Heights police say an overnight standoff at a home on Maple Lane near 15 Mile has come to an end peacefully.
Lt. Luke Riley said police were called to the Seville Terrace Condos around midnight after neighbors reported suspicious activity. Police questioned a couple of teenagers and a short time later found a bag with tools used to remove tires and wheels from vehicles. A canine unit tracked the bag to a home on Maple Lane nearby.
"They requested a canine and responded. They tracked from the bag, from the tool bag back towards a residence, a single family home just south of the complex and when they neared the home, they heard a shot was fired," Riley said.
"Initially we believed they may have been planning on committing a larceny, stealing tires and wheels from the vehicle. We don't know, we'll have to determine that through the investigation to exactly what occurred prior to the shot being fired."
Riley said two adults and several juveniles came out of that home, but two young people were stayed inside.
"Special Response team was requested and responded. There was still a 16-year-old in the residence that they made contact with and a 12-year-old who was asleep in the basement. We spoke with the 16-year-old for several hours and he finally decided to come out."
Riley said police are still trying to determine what, if anything, the teens were up to. No one was injured in the incident.
