Stafford On Schwartz: 'He Trusted Me'
DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford said his mechanics are fine during an interview on the Valenti and Foster show Monday -- but he took full blame for the team's loss this weekend.
Stafford finished 24-50 for 246 yards with three interceptions in what is widely considered the worst performance of his career -- and Stafford took full responsibility for it.
He said his play in the fourth quarter was a death knell. "We had that thing moving in the fourth quarter --(Without my play), it's a 7-point game with some time left," Stafford said.
He added: "I gotta pull the trigger a little bit quicker," adding of Schwartz: "I think he trusts me to get the play off. I think he just trusted me."
Has Schwartz lost control of the team?
"Absolutely not," Stafford said. "Everybody in that locker room has a ton of respect for coach Schwartz, we believe in him, we just gotta put it together and play better football."
With no chance to get into the playoffs, what are the Lions playing for the rest of the year? Stafford said he knows.
"You get a chance to get out there and play football in the NFL ... a chance to prove yourself," Stafford said.
The Lions take on the Falcons this Saturday.
