Stabenow Wants Rebate Up Front For Electric Cars
DETROIT (WWJ) Consumers who buy plug-in electric vehicles could get a rebate of up to $7,500 at the point of sale. This, under legislation proposed by U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow.
"I'm proposing , at no cost, for us to front load that, so when you go into the dealership you would actually get it deducted from the price and get the benefit right away," says Stabenow.
She also wants tax credits for investments into electric vehicle recharging stations and for businesses that buy hybrid trucks.
The White House says it would like to see 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2015. Although some of Washington is in a budget-cutting mood, Stabenow says she hopes the proposal makes it through Congress.
Stabenow says investing in innovation, manufacturing of high-tech new products like electric batteries, and making sure consumers get the very best deal is really a winner for us.
