Stabenow Calls For Crackdown On Trade Manipulation
DETROIT (WWJ) - U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow says her "American Competitiveness Plan" is the answer to unfair trade practices that are killing American jobs.
Stabenow wants to crack down on currency manipulation, create a trade prosecutor, and stop the theft of American ideas and technologies.
"A legislative initiative that I'm introducing, the American Competitiveness Plan, is focusing on the fact that we have too many other countries that are not following international trade rules," Sen. Stabenow said.
Tooling Manufacturing and Technologies Association President Robert Dumont joined Sen. Stabenow at a news conference in Detroit Monday.
"Manufacturers all across the country have suffered mightily for the mercantilist practices of China and others who misalign their currencies far below their fair market values," Dumont said.
According to a recent U.S. Census report, Chinese currency manipulation has resulted in the loss of more than 2 million U.S. jobs.
