If few are convinced that the Detroit Lions will be a playoff team this season, it seems at least that many are still intrigued.
SI.com indicated such curiosity with a detailed breakdown of the mechanics and decision-making of Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who received a handsome - but not anywhere near blockbuster - contract extension a few weeks ago.
Setting aside the influences of a pass-heavy system and the blessing of Calvin Johnson, the best receiver in the league, as Stafford's main target, the article probes Stafford's inconsistent throwing motion and footwork, his spotty record in the red zone and his ability to read defenses.
In the opinion of author Doug Farrar, the inconsistency will keep Stafford from reaching his potential that his arm gives him to be a top three quarterback.
