Speedier Bus Line In Grand Rapids Area Gets Boost
GRAND RAPIDS (AP) - A higher-speed bus line in the Grand Rapids area is getting a nearly $32 million boost from the federal government.
The Grand Rapids Press reports the Silver Line on Division Avenue on Thursday got a construction grant agreement. The federal funding is the last piece needed for the $39.8 million Silver Line to get rolling. Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and others were on hand for the announcement.
Construction is expected to begin next year. Following completion in 2015, the Silver Line will travel a 9.6-mile stretch of Division Avenue into and out of downtown Grand Rapids.
The buses will run in dedicated lanes. State funding for the project for transit system known as The Rapid totals nearly $8 million.
