Spartans Report: Notes, Quotes

--The day before unveiling his 2011 recruiting class, Mark Dantonio announced that offensive line coach Dan Roushar would be Michigan State's new offensive coordinator. Roushar replaces Don Treadwell, who took the head job at Miami (Ohio). Roushar has been an offensive coordinator at four previous stops, including Illinois in 2004. Roushar also will coach tight ends. Mark Staten, formerly the tight ends coach, will take over the offensive line. And running backs coach Brad Salem will take over recruiting coordinator duties for Staten. Dantonio still was looking for a wide receivers coach to complete the staff.

--QB Joe Boisture has decided to transfer from Michigan State. A top 2010 recruit, Boisture did not give a reason for the transfer and had not yet announced a new destination. He was scheduled to be Michigan State's No. 3 QB this season, then likely would have been No. 2 to Andrew Maxwell in 2012 and 2013. True freshman Connor Cook is now in line to be the Spartans' No. 3 QB in 2011.

SPRING SNAPSHOT

Practice begins/ends: March 22/April 30

Practice priorities: The coaching staff is looking hard at the offensive line and linebacker corps, with three starters departing the former and two -- including All-American Greg Jones -- taking leave of the latter. Battles at left tackle, right tackle and center likely will continue into the fall. Max Bullough is Jones' heir apparent at middle linebacker, with Steve Gardiner and Denicos Allen battling at Gordon's old spot. Michigan State also has a position battle at one cornerback spot, with Darqueze Dennard and Tony Lippett the top two contenders.

QUOTE TO NOTE
"It's been a lot of flights here in the last couple weeks, but we're very excited about that. ... It's a great class for us. Quite frankly, this may be the strongest class we've signed." -- Michigan State coach Mark Dantonio, on the staff's ability to get recruits from different regions of the country this year.
