Southwest Airlines Wrapping Up Jetliner Inspections
WASHINGTON, DC (WWJ) - Southwest Airlines hopes to complete inspections on its remaining Boeing 737 "300" jetliners by late Tuesday. The checks were ordered after Friday's incident in which a five-foot hole ripped open on one of the planes, forcing the crew to make an emergency landing in Yuma.
CBS News Transportation Safety Analyst Mark Rosenker is also a former chairman of the NTSB. "You don't know what you don't know," Rosenker said. "That's a simple statement right there, and it may sound strange when you're talking about sophisticated advanced technologies like aircraft, but sometimes phenomenon like this do happen and here is a case."
The FAA is also set to issue an emergency directive mandating inspections on early models of the 737, 80 of which are used by airlines in the United States.
