Southfield Woman Dies In Apartment Fire
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - A 61-year-old woman is dead and several other people are homeless after a fire at a Southfield apartment complex.
Officials said the fire started around 9 p.m. Tuesday in a first floor unit at the Chateau Rivera Apartments, near 9 Mile and Southfield roads.
With a fire station just around the corner from the complex, firefighters were able to make quick work to contain the fire to just one unit. Neighboring residents, however, had to be evacuated as a result.
Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the body of resident Linda Ferguson. No one else was hurt.
The fire is believed to have been started by cooking as an investigation continues.
