Southfield Teen Dies In Canoe Accident Up North
OSCODA TWP. (WWJ/AP) - Northern Michigan authorities say a 14-year-old Southfield boy has died in a canoeing accident on the Au Sable River.
The accident happened Sunday afternoon in Iosco County's Oscoda Township, about 60 miles north of Bay City.
Police say Jamil Foster disappeared after his canoe flipped over. They say he was found about half a mile downstream and was taken to Tawas St. Joseph Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the boy was vacationing with an aunt and uncle during the Memorial Day weekend.
