Southfield Residents Just Saying 'No' To Proposed Walmart
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Members of Southfield City Council with a hot-button issue on their hands Monday night.
They're set to decide the fate of a proposed Walmart store at 12 Mile and Southfield roads.
Roughly 40 community members are present-- and most of them oppose the plan.
Pamela Gerald is one of the Southfield residents who doesn't want the major retailer in her neighborhood.
"We're saying to the city of Southfield, "For once do the right thing" we don't want such a big-box retailer there, it's not a good fit for the community as far as being in that location," said Gerald.
Others have expressed concern about increased traffic in the area.
In contrast, Walmart officials say they've worked with the Road Commission and plan to add turn lanes and install new traffic signal systems at the intersection.
