Southfield Police Investigate Murder Of Elderly Woman
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - The Southfield Police Department has taken over an investigation into the murder of an elderly woman found dead in Highland Park.
Lt. Nick Loussia said the elderly Southfield woman's body was found Saturday morning.
"Her body was found in the back seat of a burning car, a car that was already burnt out. The body was burned beyond recognition," Loussia told WWJ Newsradio 950's Zahra Huber.
The vehicle license plate was checked through LEIN, the Law Enforcement Information Network. It came back to a Southfield resident, 81-year-old female. She was also wearing a medical ID bracelet," he said.
After searching the woman's home, police believe she was the victim of a crime and that a struggle or assault may have taken place.
Highland Park police are assisting with the investigation.
