Southfield Mayor To Run For Congressional Seat
SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – Mayor Brenda Lawrence has officially announced her plan to run for representative of the new 14th Congressional District.
"Today is the beginning. Today we launch our campaign and our road to the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington D.C.," she said.
Lawrence, elected as mayor of Southfield in 2001, said that the campaign will be one of dedication, grass-roots, compassion and hard-work.
"It's going to be one that's not for the weak or the faint of heart," Lawrence said referring to her campaign. "It's going to be those who truly believe that we need to make a difference and we need to fight for this district."
Detroiter Akua Buda Watkins said that Mayor Lawrence has her vote.
"One of the things that I believe that we need today is a person of integrity that's going to be in public office and I believe that Brenda Lawrence represents that," said Watkins.
