Southfield Man, 64, Arraigned In Road Rage Shooting On Lodge Freeway

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) — A 64-year-old man has been charged with assault with intent to murder in connection with a road rage incident and shooting on a Detroit freeway.

Prosecutors say Friday that Michael Ziccarelli of Southfield also was arraigned on other assault and gun charges.

One woman suffered a broken arm and broken hip Tuesday when her car crashed into a wall on the Lodge Freeway after being rammed by another car.

A rifle was pointed at her after the crash. Another motorist was shot at when she stopped to help. The rifle also was pointed at three other motorists.

Ziccarelli was arrested at the scene. He was jailed on a $500,000 bond. He faces a July 1 probable cause conference and a July 7 preliminary examination.

Police seized a cache of guns and ammunition from Ziccarelli's home after the incident. Police also recovered a number of handguns and long guns from his vehicle at the shooting scene.

"During our search warrant we were able to retrieve six more long guns out of his house and we were also able to locate numerous rounds of ammunition," State Police Lt. Mike Shaw said. "We also noticed some signs in his home of possible mental illness, so that is one of the things that we're looking at as a possible motivation for this entire event."

Shaw did not offer any details about those alleged signs.
