Source Of Infection That Killed Student Sought
EAST LANSING (AP) - Tests are under way to determine the source of a possible bacterial infection that killed a 19-year-old Michigan State University student.
The Lansing State Journal reports Friday that health officials in Ingham County are waiting to review the tests.
Carly Glynn of Grand Rapids died Thursday at a Lansing hospital. University spokesman Kent Cassella said Glynn contracted what appears to be meningococcal disease, which can cause meningitis.
Health officials are unsure of the exact illness.
WILX-TV in Lansing reports officials are trying to identify anyone who had close contact with Glynn, a sophomore who lived in an on-campus residence hall.
Meningococcal disease can cause a flu-like illness or inflammation of the membranes that cover the brain and spinal cord.
