Somber Ceremony Honors Detroit Police Officers Fallen In Line Of Duty
DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit's men and women in blue were honored Friday for their service to the community.
Police Chief Ralph Godbee thanked his officers for their service during the 39th Annual Interfaith Memorial Ceremony for police who have died in the line of duty.
"Every name that's been called - every time we lift that candle higher and higher because of somebody we know ... one of our contemporaries. It's not just a name off in the distance, but it's us," said Godbee.
The names of fallen officers were read a loud during the memorial service at Old St. Mary's Church in Greektown.
The event also honored former members of the Detroit Police Department, both sworn and civilian, who have passed away.
