Snyder Speaks To Students, Announces Inaugural Plans
Preparing to take office in January, Michigan governor-elect Rick Snyder took a little time off to speak to students Thursday in Detroit.
Snyder shared his insights on being a CPA with accounting to a crowd of young people at Wayne State University.
He told the students that being a CPA can actually help change people's lives, because they can unlock some of the mysteries of finance. Snyder also talked about recently being at the National Governors' Association Meeting where he was handed a folder that showed Michigan in 47th place when it comes to new job development for 2009-2011.
"And, I looked at that, and what came to mind? We were being measured. What came to mind to me is that this is a pieve of fiction -- this is not what's going to happen. We are going to beat the living daylights out of that number," Snyder said, to the sound of applause.
Snyder will keep his inaugural activities relatively short and confined to one day when he takes office on January 1. The festivities for the incoming Republican governor are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. outside Michigan's state Capitol.
The free public event is highlighted by Snyder taking the oath of office at noon. A gubernatorial receiving line is scheduled afterward inside the Capitol.
A public event is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Impression 5 Science Center in Lansing.
Additionally, an inaugural celebration requiring a $125 ticket to attend is set for 8 p.m. at Michigan State University's Wharton Center in East Lansing.
Past inaugural events in Michigan often have included several cities over multiple days.
Snyder will be Michigan's 48th governor.
