Snyder Signs Bill To Help With Homestead Property Tax Claims

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Tax preparers will be able to check with Michigan to more easily determine if clients are eligible for homestead property tax credits under a new law signed by Gov. Rick Snyder.

The bill signed Thursday allows the Department of Treasury to disclose to certified tax preparers and free tax assistance programs certain tax data used to process homestead property tax credits.

Snyder says the law will make it "easier for residents to file their tax returns correctly" and reduce the amount of incorrect property tax credits paid.

Snyder signed another bill bringing Michigan into compliance with federal requirements by making commercial learner's permit requirements similar to those of commercial drivers' licenses.

The bill also clarifies language regarding roadside sobriety tests to ensure results are admissible in court.
