Snyder Opposed To Increase In The Minimum Wage
LANSING (WWJ) - Governor Rick Snyder is opposing proposals at the state and federal levels to increase the minimum wage.
The current $7.40 per hour rate in Michigan is above the national level but legislation from State Senator Bert Johnson this week would push it to $10 an hour over then next three years. Snyder says there are important consequences to consider.
"That is one of the challenges, because in fact, you could cause people to lose their job by raising the minimum wage," Snyder said.
President Obama called for raising the minimum wage in the U.S. to nine-dollars and hour during his state of the union address on Tuesday.
