Snyder: Mich. Unemployment Dropping Faster Than Nation's
LANSING (WWJ) - Governor Rick Snyder said despite a slight increase in the state's jobless rate last month to 11.2 percent, the picture's not all bleak.
Gov. Snyder told WWJ he prefers to look at year-to-year improvement and how Michigan is faring compared to other states.
"We've done almost twice as good as the rest of the country in terms of our unemployment rate drop. We've gone down a whole point over the last year compared to about half-of-a-point for the country," he said.
Snyder said changes passed in Lansing will generate employment across the state, but residents will have to have a bit more patience.
"These will help, these will make a difference. As a practical matter, they don't actually take effect until January first of 2012. So, they're not in place yet. They've been passed, but they're not effective yet," he said.
The Republican governor said his administration will be working to put as many job-generating programs in place as possible before the tax structure changes designed to create more jobs will go into effect.
