Snyder Gets Farm Support On New Bridge Proposal

LANSING (AP) - The Michigan Farm Bureau says it supports building a new bridge across the Detroit River from Detroit into Canada as backed by Republican Gov. Rick Snyder.

The organization made the announcement Tuesday as Snyder spoke at a Farm Bureau seminar. Snyder supports what his administration calls the New International Trade Crossing.

Michigan Farm Bureau President Wayne Wood said agricultural trade relies heavily on truck transportation that could be aided by the project.

The new bridge proposal is opposed by owners of the nearby Ambassador Bridge. Attempts to clear the way for building the new bridge stalled last year in the Michigan Senate.

Efforts to pass legislation allowing the bridge are being renewed this year.
