Snyder Assembles Team To Examine Flint's Finances
FLINT (WWJ) - The State of Michigan is preparing to audit the questionable finances of the city of Flint. The governor, prompted by an earlier look that found Flint had "probable financial stress," has set up a team to look more closely at the city's finances.
"Our overarching goal is to work collaboratively with local officials and hopefully avoid the need for an emergency manager," said Gov. Rick Snyder in a media release Friday.
"This group of eight has the necessary skills, background and expertise to ensure a detailed, thorough and fair review as quickly as possible," he said.
On the team are: Roger Fraser, deputy state treasurer; Doug Ringler, director, Office of Internal Audit Services in the Department of Technology, Management and Budget; Laura Argyle, VP of Finance and CFO for the Midland Center for the Arts; Gene Dennis, former president and CEO of Universal Systems; Darnell Earley, Saginaw city manager; Robert L. Emerson, former state budget director; Brom Stibitz, senior policy advisor in the Department of Treasury; and Frederick Headen, director of the Michigan Department of Treasury's Local Government Services Bureau.
Snyder has asked the financial review team to report its findings within 30 days.
