Snow Storm Causes Slick Roads In Metro Detroit
DETROIT (WWJ) - A weekend storm expected to bring a half-foot or more of snow to southeast Michigan is causing problems on the roadways.
Numerous accidents and spinouts have been reported Saturday morning across the metro Detroit region. The reports come at the front end of a storm system that's expected remain in the state throughout the day.
Traffic tipsters from across the board have been calling the WWJ Newsroom to report the worst areas. Drivers have reported problems on all major freeways -- including I-75, I-275, I-696, I-94, I-96, M-10, M-39, US-24 and US-23.
Drivers on side-streets that have not yet been plowed or treated with salt are also running into slick spots.
Michigan State Police say at least one fatal accident has been reported. Police say the driver, who wasn't identified, lost control of their vehicle, struck a median wall and overturned early Saturday morning on I-94.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory, in effect for all of Southeast Michigan until midnight Sunday. Pavement will be snow-covered and slippery, and visibilities will be reduced to as low as a half mile at times. Minor blowing and drifting snow will occur along north-south roads in open areas.
