Slick Road Conditions As Snow Showers Fall Across Metro Detroit
DETROIT (CBS Detroit) - It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...just a tad too late.
With much colder temperatures settling in, the snow started coming down Monday morning in metro Detroit — and it's expected to continue through the day, making roads slick.
St. Clair County may see the worst of it, with a Lake Effect Snow Warning in effect until 4 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service said, by noon, snow accumulations of four to six inches were reported there, and also in Sanilac County.
The heaviest snowfall will be mainly east of M-19 down through Port Huron where total accumulations up to eight inches are possible, according to forecasters; and locally intense snowfall rates of one inch per hour will be possible at times.
Elsewhere in metro Detroit, light snow showers and flurries were falling — moving northeast to southwest off of Lake Huron. Those heading out to lunch after noon in Southfield reported a decent coating of snow and some slick spots on the roads.
Even if the snowfall appears light where you are, AccuWeather Meteorologist John Feerick urged motorists to driver carefully.
"Generally (there will be) not much more than a coating of snow in any given area...but just a little bit could coat the roads and make things quite slick," Feerick said. "That could happen pretty much anywhere across the region through the afternoon."
Feerick said temperatures will stay mostly in the 20s through the day, but it will feel more like the mid-teens. The low in Detroit overnight will be around 13 degrees.
