Snow Halts 'Meals On Wheels' Delivery

MACOMB CO. (WWJ) - Meals on Wheels provides thousands of meals for inbound Seniors everyday. But, due to this week's snow storm, many meals in Southeast Michigan could not be delivered.

Macomb County Meals On Wheels spokeswoman, Julie Kavenaugh tells WWJ there were no food delivers, Wednesday, due to the storm.  However, all seniors in the program have received a package of non perishable items to help tide them through days like this.

"They know that there sometimes can be closures, and we make sure that they have some food available to make up for those days," Kavenaugh said.

Kavenaugh says she hopes people take this opportunity to reach out to seniors in their neighborhoods.

"We would appreciate it if people could check on their neighbors if they know they have a Senior who's homebound they could check on that person and make sure they're doing okay in the cold, and make sure they have enough heat and food to get through. We would really appreciate that," she said.

The Macomb County Meals On Wheels program prepares' it's meals at local schools. And, if the schools are closed, the kitchens are as well.

Kavenaugh says the program will resume when schools reopen.
